Innovation Workshop IAK InsurancesProviding a platform for innovation through the Bizzomate Innovation Workshop
Anticipating to the latest developments in a flexible way
In a world that is changing even more rapidly, you would like to adapt to the latest developments in a quick and flexible way. This also applies to IAK Insurances, a specialist in advising on pensions and insurance. Their clients (both individuals and companies) have growing expectations: to automate and to innovate is the message, in the form of new services and a new market approach.
Start innovation process
Bizzomate starts an innovation process with a workshop, which implies a brainstorm session with our customers’ stakeholders. Bizzomate facilitates the session and encourages the participants to think as big as possible.
How to choose the right topic? How do you know for sure that the organization is ready for innovation? Hence it is important that the first initiative is well chosen, and that the result is quickly and immediately visible. The workshop should be accessible, to the point and with a clear result. Subsequently, an initial innovation roadmap will be enrolled and a direct executable idea will be developed into a first project. Bizzomate wants to create and show its customer the results within a short period of time to get them really excited.
A little while ago we came in touch with IAK Insurances and started a process on Digital Innovation. During the workshop, we asked the participants to reflect on three themes: the internal organization, user experience vs. user contact and “changing course”.
During the introduction round with the IAK staff the following expectations and wishes emerged:
- Digitising consultancy
- Modernisation in general
- Linking systems
- An accessible portal
- Value retirement as something positive
- More event driven work
Proof of Concept
Many ideas later, the Proof of Concept (PoC), the second phase of the project, became more concrete. In a PoC an idea or product is developed into a prototype to show a feasible, overall picture. Yet, it is not complete and fully developed. The primary version gives the client a first feeling, which indicates the expectations and demands of the final result.
The idea for the PoC consisted of the following: IAK wanted to make their consults more interactive, personal and efficient. The retirement consults had to have a “sexy” appearance.
Developing the portal
And that is exactly what happened! Within 4 days Bizzomate built a portal that provides insight into the process that begins with the intake of a new employer. Then the employee data is entered and modified in a way that the (interactive) consultation can be prepared and implemented. Afterwards, the advice given by the consultant can be reread. The portal provides access for both employees of IAK, the clients (employers) of IAK and the end customer (employees of those employers).
Edwin van der Linden, Team Manager at IAK Insurance and Product owner during the PoC: “the POC is very promising, considering what has been built in four days and how great it looks already! And as a side effect we have gained insights in how we can make our work more efficient through the use of new technologies. ”
The PoC has been carried out according to the scrum method. Starting points were the user stories provided by IAK. Based on this information, the consultants started building. Each morning we started with a “daily stand-up” (a brief discussion of about 15 minutes). During this get-together the team discusses what is already done, what will be done that day and what problems might occur. At the end of each day the achievements are shown in a demo. The last day ended with a wow effect! The finishing touches were added and we ended with a final presentation for the entire department.
Eric André de la Porte, operations manager at IAK Insurances states the following: “Now we are talking with developers and business economists instead of programmers. Understanding each other has become much easier. The scrum methodology offers the team the opportunity to think innovative.”
And the continuation? Now we continue with the development of the prototype and continue the innovation process.
